About

Sven is a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing, and Ergonomics in Wachtberg, Germany, where he currently develops methods and tools to analyze and optimize onboard communication processes for German Navy vessels.

From 2005 to May 2011, he was part of the Human-Systems Integration group at Design Interactive, Inc. (Oviedo, FL, USA) where his research focused on cognitive state detection via physiological sensors, the development of dynamic adaptation frameworks for adaptive systems, and multimodal interaction. During his time at DI, he was involved with numerous SBIR efforts related to Augmented Cognition and adaptive training, and co-invented three patent-pending approaches related to human-systems interaction in military environments. He has also served as a project lead of interface and usability design efforts for a variety of industry clients.

Sven started working in research as a Fulbright scholar at DePaul University (Chicago, IL, USA) where he earned an M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction and conducted research on navigation strategies and cognitive models of Web navigation. Previously, he had earned an interdisciplinary degree in Computer Science and Media from Flensburg University of Applied Science in Germany and gained experience in the creative industries where he held positions in marketing, multimedia production and advertising.

Sven is a full member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the German chapter of the Usability Professionals Association.
